Ste L on "Custom Archive page"

i'm trying to create a archive page set out like below

2012
-day, month | post title
-day, month | next post title
-day, month | next post title
-day, month | next post title

2011
-day, month | post title
-day, month | next post title
-day, month | next post title
-day, month | next post title

2010
-day, month | post title
-day, month | next post title
-day, month | next post title
-day, month | next post title

etc

so basically i want wordpress to output the year, then a list of posts for that year underneath, then output the next year, with the list of posts for that year

how would i go about this?
